HVSN Reviews: Lexus GS

Posted on June 10, 2014 by admin

Lexus’s GS model has not proven to be as popular in the UK as it is in America. The Toyota company’s smaller IS model is much more popular in the UK. The latest generation of GS provides executive buyers with a viable alternative to other major brands. The lack of a diesel option might hurt sales somewhat.

The GS sports Lexus’s ‘L Finesse’ design approach, and offers exceptional style and class. The car should retain high residual values as well. The exterior design is quite impressive and is sure to attract a fair number of buyers.

Inside things are slightly less impressive, but Lexus’s renowned build quality and attention to detail remains impressive if not surprising. The car is well thought out and the firm’s attention to detail is very evident. The overall interior and exterior design flow together quite well.

The Lexus GS is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, and has a lot to offer drivers. The car delivers a smooth and silent ride creating the feel of high class comfort even on less than perfect roads. Both the V6 and the V8 options are excellent choices.

The GS makes a lot of practical sense. The car beats most rival prices and meets or beats them for space and comfort, and is better equipped as standard. This will be a swaying point for many buyers.

Practicality

The car will need to be serviced regularly and frequently, but should prove to be reliable. The Lexus brand is expensive and full of technology and proper upkeep is a must.

The car’s cabin provides plenty of passenger space all-round, and the car’s boot will hold up to 430 litres carrying capacity. The car is spacious and comfortable and the boot is practically sized.

The company has paid a lot of attention to the instrumentation’s fit and finish and it’s immediately obvious. The car’s controls are of good quality but they are not exciting. They are not as impressive as some competitors.

The car’s cabin is extremely comfortable. The seats are highly adjustable and just about everyone should be able to find a comfortable position. Engine and road noise are successfully suppressed creating an even more comfortable cabin environment.

The GS provides excellent accessibility to both the front and rear seats. The doors open wide allowing unhindered access for most passengers. The car is equally easy to egress and shouldn’t pose any problems.

Parking the GS is fairly straightforward. The car’s light steering and good all-round visibility make it simple to park the GS. The most difficult part will be finding a space large enough to park the car in.

Life Style

Despite the power of the car it is an executive car and not a performance car. It wasn’t designed to be driven too enthusiastically. The car provides plenty of power but should still be driven sensibly.

Despite the good deal of cabin and boot space on offer, this is not a family vehicle. The interior is too nice and wouldn’t be durable enough for family life. The car was designed for executive motoring and not for the local car pool.

This is not a first car. It is too expensive and large. The car might require a little experience in order to maneuver and park.

Lexus is a quality brand with outstanding ratings in reliability and customer satisfaction. The GS is good-looking and buyers loyal to the brand shouldn’t have any reservations continuing on with the Lexus GS.

Security and Safety

The car’s key security features include The Smart Entry system, an alarm, engine immobiliser and double door locking. Lexus receives good security ratings.

The car comes equipped with ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control. The car also comes standard with ten airbags, including knee airbags for driver and front seat passenger and front and rear curtain shield airbags. Front and outer rear passenger seatbelts have pretensioners and Isofix attachments.

The Finishing Touches

The car’s standard audio system includes a ten-speaker sound system with in-dash six-disc CD player. SE-L level and above receive an even more advanced 350 watt 14-speaker hi-fi system.

The GS offers ten exterior colours to choose from. The car’s interior boasts a leather trimmed steering wheel, advanced automatic dual-zone air conditioning,  and electrically adjustable front seats, tyre pressure warning system, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Summary

The GS is just as competent as some of the rival brands, and represents better value for money. Unfortunately badge conscious buyers will not give the GS the consideration it rightfully deserves.
