Used Cars Under £5000
With near enough everybody able to get online and play the role of a used car dealer, there are now more options than ever when it comes to buying a used car. There is literally a car out there for everyone, you just have to be willing to scroll through a few different web pages to find it. As a lot of people’s searches are based on their budget we thought we would give you a list of a few of the best used cars on the market that can be bought for under £5000.
Land Rover Discovery
The Land Rover Discovery isn’t exactly the first car that comes to mind when you are thinking of bargain used cars, but you can actually get one, and a pretty good one at that for less than £5000. The Land Rover Discovery is well known for being a rugged and reliable vehicle so the fact that any under £5000 will have done a fair few miles shouldn’t put you off too much. The example car I am looking at the moment is £3,995 and has done 126,000 miles, which is what you would expect as it is a 2002 model.
Volkswagen Passat
Fancy a saloon or an estate rather than a rugged 4×4? Well the Volkswagen Passat may be the car for you. As the Passat is made by Volkswagen you know you have a good car on your hands, they are quite executive in their looks but due to rapid depreciation, which was mainly a result of a lack of popularity rather than anything actually being wrong with the car itself, you can get them for a very enticing price. The model I am looking at now is a 2006 model and it costs £4,899 and it looks as good as new. You can however, get a second hand Volkswagen Passat for much cheaper if you don’t mind an older model, with the 2002 Passats only costing around £2,000.
Ford Focus
The Ford Focus is another safe bet, it has seen huge popularity over the years and it had some pretty big shoes to fill in the form of the Ford Escort. They have been on the road since 1998 but we would probably recommend that you don’t get anything from before the model year 2005 which is when the second generation of the car was introduced. As soon as you get to the second generation models, a second hand Ford Focus could cost anything from around the £2,500 mark. I am looking at a 2005 2.0 Zetec 3dr (Climate Pack) model for only £2,750 which is a great car for that kind of money, especially as it had done less than 70,000 miles.
Volkswagen Beetle
The Volkswagen Beetle is a pretty fantastic car to look it, it is very quirky in style and this means that is timeless, and no matter how far back you go in terms of model year, you won’t look out of date. The Volkswagen Beetle has been in and out of production since 1938, but if you are after a more modern version, Volkswagen introduced a revised model in 1998. We have found some pretty good deals on second hand Volkswagen Beetles and you can get a 2003 model for around the £3,300 mark, and the one we are looking at is full specd out and with a body kit and interior upgrade.
Volvo S40
The Volvo S40 is a bit of an unsung hero in our eyes, it offers great value, it includes a fair share of equipment and it is good to drive. It also give you plenty of space and is ideal for a family, but it is still pretty compact, and despite its practicality and space it still looks good. There are some great deals out there for second hand Volvo S40s, you can get a 2006 saloon model for as little as £3,800, and you can get models from as late as 2008 for just under £5,000, though you should look out for mileage when the price is that low for a model relatively new.
